(Not so) Baby Santi turns 3!

LIFESTYLE

Wow. This is it. We are launching our much dreamed project. And by "we", we mean three sisters that even though are considerably far apart in age from each other, we have very similar passions and outlook in life. And here we are, inviting you to take a look into our lives by showing you the things we love the most.

(Not so) Baby Santi turns 3!

Graciela Saldivia

Hi guys! Graci here. I wanted to share with you that my (not so) little baby Santiago turned three years old on February 22nd! It’s really incredible that such a long time has passed since he was so tiny, he fit in my forearm. Now he’s a “big boy” (he makes sure to clarify this to me every time I call him “my baby”) that I can barely carry for longer than a few minutes!

 Santi and Mama :)

Santi and Mama :)

My little Santi is such a funny and strong guy! He came to this world 100% healthy, which was an unbelievable blessing that took me a while to fully take in, since his big brother Joaquin has a genetic condition called Glycogen Storage Disease, type 9. Thankfully, by now, we have pretty much a full handle of Joaquin’s treatment, but back when he was a newborn, finding out that he had the disease was pretty overwhelming and scary. All these six years later, Joaquin is living a full healthy life, and even though we, mama and papa, are proud of the treatment’s success, we are also exhausted from all the sleep deprivation and constant monitoring that are needed so that he can be as healthy as possible. If you want to know more about Joaquin and his condition, you can read about it here.

Super excited about his Spider-Man birthday party decor and cake, baked by "Mi Amor" (This is how Santi calls his aunt! Jealous...).

Back to Santi! As I was saying, him being born healthy felt like a dream! Doctors were telling me I could put him to bed and not having to wake him up in the middle of the night for the usual cornstarch and protein “cocktail”? What? And that he could have a normal diet, without risking a seizure if a meal wasn’t healthy enough or if it was skipped because he was sick or just not hungry? Really? I’m not kidding when I say it took a while to take in. And I thank God every single day for allowing me to know both sides of motherhood, because without knowing first-hand the hardships of having a child with special needs, who knows if I’d be as aware of what a true blessing and a miracle it is to have one without them.

And so, Santi is growing up a happy and spoiled child, because he not only has mama and papa wrapped around his finger, but also, big brother Joaquin -“ñaño”, as he calls him- is always taking care of him and letting him do pretty much everything he wishes! And for that, Joaquin is Santi’s true idol. The way they love each other simply melts my heart.

Everything is better with " ñaño " (Santi's term of endearment for Joaquin).

Santi might be a young toddler and the baby of the house, but you wouldn’t know it by the way he talks and expresses himself. He will let you know about how he feels about EVERYTHING, which sometimes can be awkward and hilarious, as he is just now understanding the concept of filters and discretion.

Anyway, I don’t mean to bore you any longer with my testament how a mama feels about her baby. Let me just finish by saying something that you’ve probably heard a trillion times: Even though I am tired, I am also happy; I might feel overwhelmed, but I also feel blessed; and when I get short of patience, I remind myself to give an excess of thanks, because I wouldn’t change one single aspect of my kids or my family for anything in the world. I am the lucky one.

Happy birthday baby Santi. Thank you for being in my life, or better said, thank you for BEING my life.

I will never get enough of him...

Elsa and I decorated the cake, which made it very clear we have a lot to learn! Ha! At least it was super yummy, and Santi loved it :)
